An historical win

Girona FC wrote the brighest page of their history this evening after securing their most prestigious win to date, a well-deserved 2-1 at Montilivi over the current European champions, Real Madrid (2-1).

Isco scored the opener (12'), but in the first half Girona was already proving better with both Maffeo and Portu hitting the post.

After the break, the locals totally controlled the game and scored twice in five minutes to overturn Isco’s opener. Stuani (54'), with perfect definition after a great action from Pere Pons, and Portu (58'), with a heel-shot after a good cross from Maffeo on the right, made the extraordinary comeback.

Pablo Machín's line up was formed by Bounou; Bernardo, Juanpe, Muniesa; Pablo Maffeo, Pere Pons, Granell, Aday; Borja (Timor, 75'), Portu (Kayode, 81'), Stuani (Mojica, 88').

In the next round, Girona, who are now on 12 points, will face Levante at Ciudad de Valencia stadium this coming Sunday (12 pm).
