FC Barcelona beat Girona FC by 6 goals to 1 in a historic match, the first meeting between both teams at Camp Nou in the 1st Division.
Pablo Machín’s team went one up thanks to a goal from Portu two minutes into the match, but FC Barcelona did not take long to even up the scoreboard thanks to the Luis Suárez-Leo Messi partnership. At half-time, Barça were already winning 4-1 after doubles from the Uruguayan and the Argentine.
In the second half, the Barça steamroller did not stop and Valverde’s team notched up a further two goals. Coutinho, assisted by Suarez, and the 'charrúa', who scored a hat-trick, rounded off the ‘azulgrana’ win.
