Girona FC's dream of winning promotion to the First Division for the first time in its history, is closer than ever to becoming a reality after the exciting victory at Montilivi over Huesca (3-1), a team that fight to secure one of the four places to classify for the play-off.
Pablo Machin’s team played at a breakneck pace from the beginning and Portu (39') and Fran Sandaza, from the penalti spot (41'), put a comfortable 2-0 lead on the scoreboard but Samu Saiz scored in the dying minutes of the first half. After an equal second half, Fran Sandaza signed, sealed and delivered the match in injury time.
Girona's line-up was Bounou; Ramalho, Kiko Olivas, Juanpe; Cifu, Rubén Alcaraz (Granell, 62'), Pere Pons, Portu (Borja García, 67'), Aday; Longo (Cristian Herrera, 81') and Sandaza.
Girona’s next game will see them take on league leaders, Levante, in Valencia this coming Saturday 13 (6 pm). The local team already secured promotion to the First Division last week.
